ARTIFICIAL AND HUMAN INTELLIGENCE: COMPETITION OR SYNERGY?

(USING THE EXAMPLE OF A STUDY OF SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS OF FRENCH YOUTH)

The fields of application of artificial intelligence are expanding more and more (fi- nance, industry, medicine, transport, etc.), which causes a dual perception of this phenome- non: does it threaten the number of jobs, or vice versa – will it replace humans in difficult and dangerous areas? We share the point of view (Friend, 2019), which is to consider the rela- tionship between artificial and human Intelligences, not in terms of competition, but in terms of synergy. But what does the younger generation think about this? They are, after all, the decision-makers of tomorrow who will face such a complex phenomenon as artificial intelli- gence. In this regard, we propose to analyze the first results of a study aimed at examining the social representations of French youth about artificial intelligence (N = 140). The first part of the questionnaire developed by us is based on the method of J.-C. Abric (Abric, 2003) «Hierarchy of word association». This method provides quick access to the content of the respondent’s representations, while avoiding cognitive control. In the second part of the questionnaire, the model of personal involvement of M.-L.Rouquette was used (Rouquette, 1997, 1998). In our opinion, personal involvement reflects the attitude of the individual to artificial intelligence as a subject of social importance. We believe that the applied method-ology can be used in conducting interdisciplinary research on various phenomena in today’s socio-economic reality.
